The Academic cell has been in existence since 1987. The main objective and functioning of the Academic cell is to facilitate the academic activities of the Institute in the speciality of Oncology. The institute imparts training in various discipline sub specialities of Oncology to Post graduate students, Undergraduate students, internees (both national and international), nurses and Scientists of allied sciences from various Medical / paramedical institutions in the State / Country.
In recognition of the facilities available at the Institute for Diagnosis, treatment and research, various Post Graduate, Under Graduate and Diploma courses are offered which are given below. These courses are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and has recognition by the respective bodies such as Medical Council of India (MCI), National Board of Examinations (NBE) and Indian Nursing Council.
The main objective of this training programme would be to train the medical personnel in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in early stages in their respective areas. This Institute is running postgraduate courses in MD (Radiotherapy) from the year 1987. Super Speciality Courses viz. M.Ch (Surgical Oncology) & D.M. Medical Oncology), PG diploma in DNM (Diploma in Nuclear Medicine) & DRP (Diploma in Radiation Physics), B.Sc. Medical Technology (Laboratory/Radiotherapy/Radio diagnosis) have also been started from 1, Sept. 1989. These courses are affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore and recognised by the Medical Council of India, New Delhi.
The Association of Physicians of India API (Karnataka Chapter) has donated the Digital Library for Academic & research purpose . The facility consist of well networked 16 computer teminals and database storage & server, for students and staff of KMIO.
The Institute has Hostel and Mess facilities for the students. The Institute has a state of art Library facilities which includes Digital Library services with Internet facilities to have access to digital Library and HELINET facilities of RGUHS. The Institute has constituted Anti Ragging Committee, Women Welfare Committee, Sports Committee, Scientific Review Board, Ethical Review Board and Academic Committee.
